Always Islands

Hawaii, Hawaii,
Land of the koa tree,
Land of the mountain fire, clime of the sun;
Mildly the limpid deep
Rolls on thy coral steep,
Clear as the air of thy beautiful zone.
— JOHN MACHAR MACDONALD, "Ode to Hawaii Nei"

This month I had a fun trip on my calendar - a week of Island Time in Hawaii where I intended to explore a handful of unique places to stay. This planning is in preparation for a 2021 retreat that I am producing with my friend and photographer, Douglas Beasley. The COVID-19 pandemic has paused my travel plans this month, but I remain excited to bring this trip to fruition when traveling is safe again.

If you’re interested in being added to my interest list for February 2021 in Hawaii, drop your email address here so we can stay in touch.

Until then, you might enjoy reading a beautiful article that I recently discovered, “See Hawaii through the eyes of Georgia O’Keeffe and Ansel Adams” published in 2013 by Hawaii Magazine. Both Georgia and Ansel traveled to the Hawaiian Islands between 1939 and 1958, and created stunning works that exude on canvas and film Hawaii’s beauty and sense of place. The gallery below is a small collection of the works that they created during their visits. I hope you enjoy the article as much as I did!
